Belle’s World - Rejection

Building Resilience to Keep Going

After months of hard work, I was crushed when I didn’t get my dream internship in my MBA program in the Coca-Cola Brand team. As my peers celebrated their acceptances, I felt demoralized and doubted myself. But with time and support, I regained perspective. I realized this one rejection didn’t define me. When a better opportunity came along, I was back in the game. I ended up still getting an internship at Coca-Cola but it was in the B2B Customer Innovation Team. This role exposed me to a world of work that defined many of my future career choices.

Rejection stings. After putting yourself out there professionally or personally, you can feel deflated by dismissal or silence. Yet rejection is also an inevitable part of growth and change. This post explores moving from rejection to resilience, processing the hurt while retaining hope and courage to try again. You are stronger than any “no”.

Rejection triggers deep wounds - our sense of worth, fears of unbelonging, grief of dashed dreams. Allow yourself to process the hurt. Yet while rejection feels personal, circumstances are often outside your control. Do not internalize failures. Each “no” clears space for the right “yes.” Had another path not closed, you wouldn’t stand poised for new openings. Let go of controlling outcomes. Keep taking bold risks, learning and refining. Your breakthrough will come. You have so much to offer.

Revisit your gifts and resolve. Rejection cannot define you without your consent.

When you’ve faced rejection, how can you process the emotions while retaining courage and hope?
